Guatemala, September 8, 2025

In the presence of the President of Guatemala, Mr. Bernardo Arévalo, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Carlos Ramiro Martínez, the new Ambassador of the European Union, Johanna Karanko, presented her credentials to the Guatemalan government.

The ceremony took place at the National Palace of Culture, the seat of government, where the European Union took the opportunity to reiterate its friendship and support for the current administration.

Ambassador Karanko attended the ceremony accompanied by Mr. Mirko Puig, Head of the Political, Press and Information Section, Ms. María González-Mata, Head of the Cooperation Section, and Ms. Carolina De Marco, Assistant to the Ambassador.

This formal event marks the beginning of a new administration that will continue to work hard to further strengthen the close relations between the EU and Guatemala.
