Texans clinch series win with a victory on Saturday against Utah Tech

STEPHENVILLE, Texas - Tarleton State Baseball (19-25, 7-7 WAC) took down the Utah Tech Trailblazers (17-23, 3-11 WAC) on Saturday afternoon, winning 14-5.

The Purple and White have now extended their WAC win streak to four games in a row, clinching their second consecutive series victory. During Saturday afternoon's game, the Texans posted 17 hits compared to Utah Tech's nine. went a perfect five-for-five and also posted a team-high four RBIs along with two runs. Lorch was one of five Texans to have multiple hits today.

Tarleton State came out hot in the first inning, putting up a stellar six runs off six hits and an error. got things started with a one-out single. After Utah Tech drew the second out of the inning, and hit two consecutive singles, bringing in Morrison and making the ballgame 1-0. kept the two-out rally going with a base-clearing double that scored McCloud and Lorch.

The Texans weren't done scoring yet. kept the rally going with a single that advanced Guerra to second. Finally, the first frame was capped off by a three-run home run from that gave Tarleton State an early 6-0 advantage. This marked Shirey's third home run of his senior campaign and his 29th RBI of the year.

produced a critical double play ball to hold the Trailblazers scoreless in the top of the second. The Purple and White tacked on four more runs in the bottom of the stanza, a scoring spurt that included an RBI double from Morrison and a three-run bomb to left field from Lorch. This marked Lorch's second home run in his last four games and his second of five hits for the afternoon.

Utah Tech scratched off two runs in the third thanks to a defensive miscue from the Texans and two RBIs from Kace Naone and Ryan Kroepel. Tarleton State responded immediately with two runs of their own. notched a lead-off single and stole second base, followed by a single from that advanced Brewster to third. and registered an RBI apiece, successfully scoring Brewster and Heinrich to put the Texans' lead back to ten runs.

After drawing two walks to lead off the fourth frame, Utah Tech put up two runs when Ty Johnsen hit a two-RBI single that drove in Finnegan Stewart and Aaron Perez. came in to relieve Burcham of his duties. Carter pitched three innings of work, allowing only one hit while striking out three batters. The game remained at a stalemate until the top of the seventh when Naone launched a solo shot that cut the lead to seven.

The Texans tacked on two runs for insurance in the bottom of the eighth stanza. This scoring spurt contained two singles from McCloud and Lorch as well as a sacrifice fly from Drake that brought in McCloud for Tarleton State's 14th run of the contest.
