After more than a week of diligent investigation by detectives with the Enhanced Community Safety Team (ECST), a shooting suspect is in custody for attempted murder and other charges.

On Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at 11:37 p.m., Portland Police officers assigned to North Precinct responded to a report of a shooting in the 6200 block of Northeast Columbia Boulevard. When they arrived, they found an adult male victim with an apparent gunshot wound in the parking lot. The victim was treated by EMS and transported to the hospital by ambulance. His injuries were critical but not believed to be life threatening. Another adult male victim was also assaulted and injured but not shot. He was transported to the hospital by ambulance for treatment of serious injuries.

The suspect or suspects left the scene before police arrived and no immediate arrests were made.

ECST detectives pursued the case over the course of the week and identified a suspect, Tyree M. Burks, 24, of Portland. Working with prosecutors at the Multnomah County District Attorney's Office, detectives obtained a warrant for Burks' arrest.

On Friday, June 26, 2026, detectives developed information that Burks was at a residence in the 2000 block of South Riverfront Parkway. The Special Emergency Reaction Team (SERT) and the Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT) were activated for a warrant service. Officers safely arrested Burks and served a search warrant, locating and seizing a .45 caliber Glock handgun (photo).
