Reed: Glad All Attendees of WHCA Dinner Are Safe & Perpetrator in Custody

PROVIDENCE, RI - Today, after a person with a gun was apprehended outside the White House Correspondent Association dinner in Washington, DC, forcing the evacuation of President Trump, First Lady Melania Trump, and several other officials, U.S. Senator Jack Reed issued the following statement:

"I am here in Rhode Island monitoring the situation and glad to hear all attendees are safe and that the assailant was apprehended outside the event.

"Political violence is never acceptable. We are grateful to the Secret Service and law enforcement for their swift response and all they do to protect the president and keep everyone safe. The individual who attempted to commit violence at this event must be held accountable and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law."
