Tomsk Polytechnic University, with the support of the Federal Program "Priority 2030" of the National Project "Youth and Children", has launched a complex of modern educational and research laboratories for students and researchers in the field of chemical technology and biotechnology.
The renovated classrooms are located in building no. 2 (43a Lenin Ave.) of Tomsk Polytechnic University on the basis of the N.M. Kizhner Scientific and Educational Center of the Engineering School of New Production Technologies of TPU. The total area is about 280 square meters.
Required repairs have been carried out in all rooms - walls and ceilings have been finished, floors have been replaced, electricity and heating systems have been partially replaced, ventilation system has been upgraded, necessary multimedia and laboratory equipment has been purchased.
Today, we are opening a whole complex of scientific and educational facilities in the architectural monument building, where students and postgraduate students will study. It is especially gratifying that we are doing this in the year of the 130th anniversary of the University. This space has become alive - the entire 130-year history and modern technological level are felt here at the same time. In fact, we synthesize traditions and innovations,
- said Leonid Sukhikh, Acting Rector of TPU, at the opening ceremony.
Thus, a laboratory complex for the development of medicines and medical supplies has been created in building no.2.
It includes educational laboratories of microbiology and biosynthesis, organic synthesis, research laboratories of applied biotechnology, intermediate product synthesis for active pharmaceutical substances. They are equipped with modern laboratory furniture, research equipment, a new ventilation system which takes into account functioning of "clean rooms".
The laboratory complex is intended for workshops on general and pharmaceutical microbiology, fine organic synthesis, medical research of candidate drugs for biological activity, development of methods for synthesis, purification and quality control of biological products, as well as for the creation of new molecules with potential biological activity.
"It is fitting that the new laboratories are being opened at Tomsk Polytechnic University on the eve of Science Day. This is one of the most important holidays for Tomsk, because there are strong research schools here, there is always onward movement, progress and a desire to solve the tasks and achieve the goal of technological leadership. We are very grateful to the teachers, researchers, students, and young professionals who glorify Tomsk and help Russia to maintain technological sovereignty," said Lyudmila Ogorodova, Deputy Governor of the Tomsk Region for Scientific and Technological Development.
TPU students will study in the new laboratories and pharmaceutical industry specialists will have advanced training and retraining there.
"I feel proud and a little envious of the young people who can study here. I am proud that modern research laboratories are being opened in Tomsk. As a representative of the State Duma, I know for sure that chemistry is one of the priorities in our country. After all, without chemistry, we will not be able to advance anywhere - neither in medicine, nor in industry, nor in the development of new deposits. There is no way to do without chemistry today!", - said Tatiana Solomatina, Deputy of the State Duma of Russia.
There is also a synthesis hall in building no. 2 for scientific and educational events to be held in an informal setting, for example, mini-seminars. There is a unique scientific library, which has been collected by different generations of university staff since the first days of its foundation.
The project has been implemented with the support of the Priority 2030 Program and the university's own funds.
