WASHINGTON, DC - Today, Congresswoman Sydney Kamlager-Dove (CA-37) released the following statement after voting against House Republicans' partisan funding bill, which included cuts to food programs, housing assistance, and veterans' care:
"Once again, House Republicans have chosen to bow down to Donald Trump instead of standing up for the American people. I voted against the partisan funding bill because it lacks any guardrails to prevent Elon Musk and Donald Trump's hostile government takeover, giving this administration the green light to cut vital services that my constituents depend on. Why would I sign a blank check for programs that DOGE has already vowed to dismantle?
"Let me be clear: anyone who calls this a 'clean' government funding bill is lying. A funding bill cannot be clean if it results in 32,000 people being evicted from their homes, 25,000 seniors going hungry, and countless veterans losing access to healthcare. Full stop.
"I will not be bullied into helping Trump and Musk steal from federal programs that literally keep my constituents alive. The Senate must prioritize the needs of the American people by blocking this legislation and forcing Republicans back to the negotiation table."
