Penn State Altoona will host Loretta Claiborne on Monday, Sept. 29, at 3:45 p.m. in the Fireside Lounge of the Slep Student Center.
ALTOONA, Pa. - Penn State Altoona will host Loretta Claiborne on Monday, Sept. 29, at 3:45 p.m. in the Fireside Lounge of the Slep Student Center.
Claiborne was born partially blind and intellectually challenged and was unable to walk or talk until age four. Now an adult, she has crossed the finish line of twenty-six marathons and won medals in dozens of Special Olympics events, holding the current women's record of 17 minutes in her age group for the 5000 meters. She is a fourth-degree black belt in karate, communicates in four languages, including American Sign Language, and holds three honorary doctorate degrees.
Claiborne will speak on the importance of equity, inclusion, belonging, and disability acceptance. The event is free and sponsored by the Office of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging.
