Lynn Oldshue to present 12/18 Food For Thought lunchtime lecture at the Alabama Archives

Montgomery, AL (12/11/2025) - The Alabama Department of Archives & History (ADAH) will continue its 2025 Food for Thought lunchtime lecture series on Thursday, December 18, at 12:00pm CT. Lynn Oldshue will present Stories Matter: Our Southern Souls. The program will be held in the ADAH's Joseph M. Farley Alabama Power Auditorium in Montgomery. It will also be livestreamed on the ADAH's Facebook page and YouTube channel. Admission is FREE.

Lynn Oldshue is a journalist, storyteller, and author of Our Southern Souls. A native of Yazoo City, Mississippi, she earned a B.A. in Communications from Mississippi State University, followed by an M.A. in Marketing from the University of Alabama. She reports for Lagniappe in Mobile and serves as the Gulf Coast Correspondent for Alabama Public Radio. Oldshue's work extends across the South through her blog and two-volume book, all titled Our Southern Souls.

Her books are a collection of over 200 profiles drawn from conversations with people she met in everyday places. She began the project six years ago after spending months riding Mobile's bus system, documenting the lives of riders who rely on public transportation for work, school, and daily needs before expanding her interviews to other public spaces around the South. Oldshue's approach emphasizes careful observation, accuracy, and respect for the individuals she profiles, contributing to a clearer public understanding of the social dynamics shaping the region.
