Brampton Road Connector opens July 15 in Savannah
Savannah, Ga.,- The Georgia Department of Transportation will open July 15 the SR 26 Connector/Brampton Road Connector, a new four-lane highway linking the Georgia Port's terminal gate directly to the interstate system, relieving local streets of semi-truck traffic and removing at-grade railroad crossings.

The Brampton Road Connector opening also calls for modifications on three major intersections: new signalized intersection activation on Brampton Road at Garden City Terminal's Gate 3/Brampton Road Connector; Main Street/SR 25, Burnsed Boulevard and the Brampton Road Connector modification from T-intersection to a four leg intersection; and Brampton Road & SR 25 intersection modified from a four leg to a T-intersection eliminating railroad crossing at this intersection.

On July 15, crews will first activate the new Gate 3 and Brampton Road signalized intersection at the north end of Brampton Road Connector while activating signals for the four-leg intersection at the south end of the connector on SR 25, thereby opening the Brampton Road Connector. Later that day, modifications to SR 25/Main St. and Brampton Road intersection will be installed.

Motorists are urged to plan ahead and use alternate routes around this area on July 15 to avoid travel delays and ensure safety. Local law enforcement will be present to manage traffic control during activation, and drivers should follow posted signs and instructions. All work is weather dependent and may be rescheduled if necessary.

The key goals for this $126 million Brampton Road Connector are to improve freight mobility from the port, increase safety for motorists on local streets, and eliminate waiting time at the railroad crossing.

The delivery of the new freight corridors and upgrades to key interchanges in the Savannah area are great examples of Georgia DOT's commitment to enhancing safety on our roadways and improving mobility for both people and goods.

Advisory: Motorists are advised to expect delays, exercise caution, and reduce their speed while traveling through work zones. Before heading out, get real-time information on work status and traffic conditions. Call 511, visit 511ga.org, or download the Georgia 511 app.
