OAQDA Issues $24 Million for Clean Air Improvements in Cincinnati Housing Project
Upgrades will lower utility costs for residents and revitalize an underutilized property
COLUMBUS - The Ohio Air Quality Development Authority (OAQDA) has issued $24 million in financing to support clean air improvements for 2443 Auburn LLC, a student housing development in Cincinnati's historic district. This urban infill project, led by Uptown Rental Properties, LLC, will introduce high-efficiency building upgrades designed to lower energy costs for residents while reducing emissions. Financial assistance is provided through OAQDA's Clean Air Improvement Program (CAIP).
"This project serves a growing need for workforce housing while also revitalizing an underutilized property within the Cincinnati community," said Christina O'Keeffe, executive director of OAQDA. "With OAQDA's financial support, the community will benefit from cleaner and more attainable housing options and tenants will benefit from reduced utilities from energy savings on operating costs."
Once the project is complete, it is estimated that utility bills at 2443 Auburn will be 50% lower than comparable buildings in the area.
The approved bond financing will support the installation of high-efficiency HVAC systems, heat pump domestic water heaters, LED lighting, and upgraded insulated roofs, walls and windows. These improvements will result in a 53.7% reduction in energy usage, significantly lowering operating costs that will benefit future tenants.
The project is expected to create two full-time positions and one part-time job as well as repurposing an underused property, further contributing to economic growth in the area.
