Matthews Thomas Park Receives $75,000 from Capital Budget

COLUMBUS- State Rep. Bill Roemer (R-Richfield) met with the Boston Heights Council to discuss the $75,000 awarded to Matthews Thomas Park through Substitute House Bill 2, in conjunction with State Senator Roegner, the state's two-year construction budget for capital projects across Ohio.

Located off Olde Route 8 in the Village of Boston Heights, capital budget funds will be used to expand park trails, reduce flooding and water pollution through pond restoration, and provide new opportunities for residents of any age who want to enjoy and explore the space.

"The Matthews Thomas Park is a space for community members to come together and participate in a more active lifestyle through the park's multiple outdoor recreational spaces," said Roemer. "Using capital budget funds, multiple areas throughout the park will be revitalized for more residents to walk, play, and relax."

"Over the past six months, the Village has made significant progress in upgrading the park's infrastructure, beautifying the landscape, and expanding accessibility. Among the most notable improvements is the installation of a fountain and two aerators in the pond, which have already begun to reduce algae, enhancing both the pond's appearance and environmental health," said Ron Antal, Village of Boston Heights Mayor. "Thanks to the collaboration with State Representative Bill Roemer, the Village has also been able to expand the walking trails around the pond, providing more opportunities for outdoor recreation and leisure."

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine signed the legislation on June 28, creating additional opportunities for everyone to enjoy outdoor activities at Matthews Thomas Park.
