The Week Ahead: Week of April 27 – May 1

WASHINGTON - This week, the Senate Foreign Relations Committee will convene for a nominations hearing, one business meeting, and one policy hearing.

  1. Nominations Hearing: To be chaired by Senator Daines (R-Mont.), the committee will consider nominees Darrell Owens to be U.S. representative to the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, Juan Rodriguez to be ambassador to Guatemala, William Trachman to be ambassador to Tanzania, and George Holding to be Director of the European bank for reconstruction and development.

  2. Business Meeting: The committee will consider several nominees to include: John Breslow to be ambassador to Cyprus, Fleet White III to be assistant secretary of State for political and military affairs, Todd Steggerda to be U.S. representative to the office of the UN and other international organizations, and Preston Wells Griffith III to be U.S. representative to the Vienna office of the UN and U.S. representative to the IAEA, Adam Cassady to be ambassador for cyberspace and digital policy, and Frank Garcia to be a member of the board of directors of the African Development Foundation.

  3. Full Committee Hearing: The committee will convene for a policy hearing titled Sabotage in the Baltic Sea, Implications for European Security, and Lessons for the Indo-Pacific. Witnesses include Dr. Benjamin Schmitt, senior fellow at Kleinman Center for energy and policy, and Perry World House, and The Honorable James C O' Brien, visiting fellow at the European Council on Foreign Relations.
