Governor Lamont Announces Drought Advisories Removed for All Connecticut Counties

(HARTFORD, CT) - Governor Ned Lamont today announced that due to recent rainfall that has brought relief to Connecticut, all previously declared drought advisories in the state are being removed, leaving all eight of the state's counties with no formal drought declarations.

In June, the governor declared a Stage 2 drought advisory for Fairfield County, Middlesex County, and New Haven County due to decreased precipitation, significantly low streamflow in water bodies, and increased wildfire danger. A Stage 2 drought advisory is the second of five levels under the Connecticut Drought Advisory Preparedness and Response Plan, with Stage 1 being the lowest level and Stage 5 the most extreme.

Removing all previously declared drought advisories was recommended to the governor by the Connecticut Interagency Drought Workgroup, a state entity consisting of representatives of several state agencies that meet regularly to monitor and address drought conditions and make recommendations to the governor on the state's response to drought events.
