NTCA Urges FCC to Address Barriers to Rural Competition

(May 21) In comments filed with the FCC, NTCA argued that regulatory uncertainty, permitting delays and rights-of-way fees unrelated to actual local costs continue to undermine investment and competition in rural communications markets. NTCA also urged the commission to take steps to improve the National Broadband Map challenge processes and to consider shared capacity when evaluating coverage claims. NTCA further recommended the commission preserve existing frameworks that support rural providers and address growing video marketplace pressures, including retransmission consent costs and efforts to force a transition to ATSC 3.0.
