Aberdeen Composite Squadron Chartering Ceremony

July 17, 2025, marked the official kickoff and introduction of the newly reformed Aberdeen Composite Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol (CAP) in Aberdeen, South Dakota. The event was attended by members of the new squadron, South Dakota Wing leadership, and visiting senior members and cadets from neighboring units.

Col. Kevin Pegelow shared his enthusiasm for the milestone, stating, "It is exciting to be a part of a squadron opening back up after many years of being dormant and to bring a unit back into the community."

Recruitment efforts are now underway to grow the squadron, both in senior members and cadets. Upcoming outreach opportunities include:

· A booth at the Brown County Fair

· An open house (date to be announced)

· An information table at local school registration nights

· A fundraiser/information night at Pizza Ranch in Aberdeen

Currently, the unit consists of 5 senior members and 8 cadets, and is actively seeking new members.
