No Traffic Controls & Pass Updates

Alpine County - The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will not conduct traffic controls in Alpine County next week.

State Routes 4 & 89

  • The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) re-opened State Route 89 (Monitor Pass) at the State Route 4/89 Junction, as of 8:00 a.m., on Tuesday, April 28, 2026. Caltrans Woodfords maintenance crew will keep SR-89/Monitor Pass open through the next storm event and will be evaluating road conditions daily. Motorists should be aware if weather and subsequent road conditions warrant an emergency closure Caltrans will close highway on short notice to safeguard the traveling public.
  • The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will keep State Route 4 (Ebbetts Pass) closed through the next storm. Next week after the increment weather Caltrans will evaluate road conditions for officially reopening Ebbetts Pass for the season. The road closures will remain westbound Raymond Meadows and eastbound at Lake Alpine.

Motorists should expect 5-to-10-minute delays and use alternate routes whenever possible. All work is scheduled to occur as listed but is subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment/materials, and construction-related issues.
