Here in Maine, we have a strong track record of coming together to protect the woods, waters, and wildlife we hold dear - for the health of our communities and the health of future generations.
Based on the results of the national election, we can anticipate attacks on bedrock environmental laws that protect our land, air, and water, and attempts to rollback cost-effective clean energy investments that help save people money.
We remain as determined as ever to keep making progress here in Maine. Together, we have stood up against polluters and worked with people in every part of the state to pass new laws and common-sense policies that have set an example for the rest of the nation.
One bright spot from Tuesday's elections was the decisive passage of the Maine Trails Bond, winning by 55% to 45%. This was a powerful example of what can happen when we come together to build a better future, united by our shared love of Maine's outdoors. As someone who helped make this happen - thank you.
We are pleased that many pro-environment champions were elected to the Maine Legislature this week. This is good news for our work in Augusta in the coming year. We hope you'll hold onto these positive outcomes in Maine as we collectively turn our attention to achieving as much progress as possible for our climate and environment during the weeks and months ahead.
One way to get involved now is to reach out to Maine's Congressional delegation or your newly elected state legislators. You can congratulate them and let them know why you care about climate action and protecting our environment. If you have a conversation or email exchange with them, we'd love to hear about it. Send a note to our Outreach Director, Emmie Theberge, at [email protected].
We are so inspired by the people we meet every day who bring knowledge, creativity, and passion to this work we do together to protect the nature of Maine. It's what has always sustained us, and it's what will sustain us moving forward.
Together, we can ensure continued progress in protecting what we love.
Sincerely,
Team NRCM
