The City of Fairfield, in partnership with Republic Services, will host a free compost giveaway and paper shredding event for Fairfield residents on Saturday, September 12, 2026, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., or until supplies run out.
The event will be held at the Dunnell Nature Park and Education Center, 3351 Hillridge Drive. UCCE Solano Master Gardeners will be available to provide composting and gardening tips.
Compost will be available in bulk. Residents must bring their own containers, and trailers are not permitted. Shovels will be provided, and the event is self-serve. Proof of Fairfield residency is required.
Free paper shredding will also be available through United Cerebral Palsy of the North Bay (UCPNB). UCPNB will also accept donations of clothing, housewares, and small household appliances in good condition to support its thrift store.
The compost giveaway supports the City's sustainability efforts and helps Fairfield meet the requirements of Senate Bill 1383, which requires organic waste to be diverted from landfills.
