Local 1208 JTRAN Workers Ratify Contract with MV Transportation Ending 39-Day Strike

Workers Stood Strong and United to Win

Jackson, MS - After a unified and strong 39-day strike, JTRAN workers ratified a tentative agreement with contractor MV Transportation that meets the Union's demands for fair pay, better working conditions, and strong benefits.

After months of fruitless negotiations between the JTRAN workers' union, ATU Local 1208-Jackson, MS, and MV, the workers went on strike on July 13 because of bad faith bargaining, Unfair Labor Practices and disrespect by the company. After bargaining with a mediator, Local 1208 was able to win a contract that addressed the Union's key priorities and concerns.

"Our members stood strong and united throughout this process. MV tried to divide us. They brought in scab bus operators and refused to address our concerns," said Local 1208 President/Business Agent Charles Tornes, Jr. "This strike shows that our members are willing to lay it all on the line for justice. I want to thank our riders, and all our allies for coming out and standing with us."

The Union and the company have been in negotiations since the workers' contract expired on December 31, 2025. MV had continued to unlawfully monitor workers, unilaterally change work rules to retaliate against employees, and other Unfair Labor Practices. In early June the workers became so frustrated with MV's unlawful treatment and disrespect they voted overwhelmingly to authorize a strike.

On the first day of the strike, ATU International President John Costa traveled to Jackson to join the strikers on the picket lines to put pressure on MV to settle this contract.

"I am proud of our JTRAN members who were willing to go to the mat to fight for their contract and a better transit system for their riders. On the picket lines, I saw firsthand their strength, unity, and solidarity," said Costa. "It was less than two years ago that these workers went on strike, and once again they won a strong contract. They are frontline heroes and can now get back to the job of keeping Jackson moving safely and reliably. It was an honor to hold the line with you."

This is the second time in less than 2 years that JTRAN workers have been on strike. In September 2024, the workers went on a successful 14-day strike securing a strong contract.
