Augustana Master of Sports Administration & Leadership Program to Host Second Annual Make-A-Wish 5K

Augustana University Master of Sports Administration & Leadership (MSAL) Program students will host its second annual Vikings Make-A-Wish 5K on Saturday, April 25, at 9 a.m., as part of their capstone project. The event will take place on Augustana's campus - beginning at Kirkeby-Over Stadium - and is open to the community.

All proceeds from the Vikings Make-A-Wish 5K will benefit Make-A-Wish South Dakota & Montana - helping grant life-changing wishes to children with critical illnesses across the region. Last year's inaugural event raised $4,000 for the cause, and organizers hope to build on that momentum in 2026.

"This capstone project is a great example of what embedded experiential based learning looks like in the MSAL program at Augie," said Dr. Scott Schmidt, program director of MSAL. "Our students are taking theory and applying it in a meaningful, real-world way that serves others. By designing and delivering a 5K benefitting Make-A-Wish, they are developing leadership, teamwork, decision making and operational skills while living out Augustana's core values of service, community and excellence."

Participants can run or walk the 5K to show their support for children and families served by Make-A-Wish.
