Rest Area, Lane & Ramp Closures
Interstate 5 And State Route 99,140, & 165
Merced County- The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will perform various closures on Interstate 5 (I-5), and State Route 99 (SR-99), SR-140, & SR-165 for maintenance and construction operations. Work is scheduled to occur as follows:
Interstate 5

Full closure of the John C. Erreca Rest Areas on northbound and southbound I-5 beginning Monday, April 4, 2022, through May 31, 2025.

ALTERNATE LOCATIONS: Motorists are advised to use the Coalinga-Avenal Rest Area (Fresno/Kings County line).
State Route 99

Full off-ramp closure on southbound SR-99 at Applegate Road Over-Crossing for sign/banner work on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Long-term one-way traffic control at the Los Banos Creek for bridge work beginning Monday, August 5, at 6:00 a.m. through Monday, March 31, 2025, at 6:00 a.m.

One-way traffic control from Linden Avenue to the Gustine Railroad Crossing for sidewalk work beginning Monday, January 27, through Friday, January 31, 2025, from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

One-way traffic control at the San Joaquin River for bridge work beginning Monday, January 27, through Tuesday, January 28, 2025, from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

One-way traffic control at August Avenue for utility work beginning Monday, January 27, through Wednesday, January 29, 2025, from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.

One-way traffic control from the Los Banos Dump to St. Francis Way for utility work on Friday, January 31, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

One-way traffic control from Wolfsen Road to Santa Fe Grade Road for utility work on Friday, January 31, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Motorists should expect 5-to-10-minute delays and use alternate routes whenever possible. This work is scheduled to occur as listed but is subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment/materials, and construction-related issues.
