The Portland Police Traffic Investigations Unit was recently notified that the pedestrian, Travis D. Petersen, 46, died of his injuries on June 9.

His family is requesting privacy; however they provided the attached photo of Travis with his two sons for public release.

The Multnomah County District Attorney's office will be reviewing this case. This remains an active investigation. If anyone has information about the crash and has not talked to police, please submit information through our online portal. Submit a Tip

This brings the current total number of traffic-related fatalities in Portland this year to 18, including seven pedestrians.

UPDATE: Driver Arrested for Hit-and-Run Following Buckman Neighborhood Crash

The driver involved in this morning's serious injury crash in the Buckman Neighborhood has been arrested for hit-and-run.

The initial investigation has indicated that the driver involved left the scene after striking and injuring the pedestrian, and she returned to the scene at a later time. Officers arrested Natasha D. Capestany, 29, of Portland, and booked her into the Multnomah County Detention Center on a charge of Failure to Perform the Duties of a Driver-Injury (class C Felony).

The pedestrian remains in the hospital with critical, life-threatening injuries.

Traffic #ALERT: Crash Investigation Underway in the Buckman Neighborhood

A traffic crash investigation is underway in the Buckman Neighborhood, closing Southeast Grand Avenue at Southeast Pine Street.

On Thursday, May 28, 2026 at 2:55 a.m., Portland Police Officers assigned to Central Precinct responded to a report of a crash at Southeast Grand Avenue and Southeast Pine Street. When they arrived, EMS was treating a patient, an adult male. The initial investigation revealed that the man was a pedestrian who had been struck by a vehicle. The driver of the vehicle was at the scene and cooperating with the investigation.

The pedestrian was transported to the hospital by ambulance and is being treated for injuries that are life threatening.

The Portland Police Traffic Division Major Crash Team is responding to investigate the crash. During the investigation, Southeast Grand Avenue is closed between Southeast Pine Street and Southeast Ash Street.
