Long Beach, CA-The Long Beach Public Library will upgrade its catalog system, improving access to the library's collection, expanding search capabilities and enhancing the overall library experience online and in person. The upgrade process will take place beginning Monday, Oct. 7 through Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2024, and the new, upgraded system will go live on Wednesday, Nov. 6.

The upgraded catalog will work similarly to the current but with enhanced features to better the user experience. Additional filter options will be added to the search feature, making it easier for patrons to find what they are looking for, as well as the ability to create specific searches and lists and save them in their accounts.

During the upgrade period, patrons will continue to have access to most Library services at all Library locations, including checking out items. Digital resources such as OverDrive, Libby, Hoopla and Udemy will remain accessible. Library programs, computers, Wi-Fi, study rooms and meeting rooms will continue to be available. However, the below Library services will be temporarily affected during the transition:

  • Beginning Oct. 7, no new hold requests for items will be accepted during the entirety of the upgrade period, but prior existing holds will still be fulfilled.
  • Beginning Oct. 14, no new items will be added to the catalog until the new system goes live.
  • From Oct. 28 through Nov. 5, the Library will not be able to check in materials, create new library card accounts or process payments.
    • As the Library does not charge late fees, patrons are encouraged to hold onto their checked-out items during this time and return them when the new system goes live on Nov. 6.

Library patrons with questions may call 562.570.7500, email [email protected] or visit any Library branch.
