Two Master of Science in Raptor Biology students from the Raptor Research Center were awarded grants from the William A. Burnham Memorial Fund of The Peregrine Fund in January 2026.

Anna Connington received a $4,080 award. "The William A. Burnham Memorial Fund of The Peregrine Fund is supporting my spring fieldwork investigating how weather and migratory volume influence the collision risk of birds with wind turbines in southern Spain," Connington said. "Specifically, I will be performing field trials to measure the detection of avian and bat fatalities at wind facilities near the Strait of Gibraltar, supporting a prominent portion of my data analysis."

Sage Dale received a $5,000 award. "This grant will support DNA extractions used for whole genome sequencing for 30 Gyrfalcons from Iceland and 30 from Greenland," Dale said. "These genomes will be used to explore intraspecific immunogenomic diversity of Gyrfalcons across their range during my PhD. It will also help support me this summer as I transition from master's to PhD, allowing me to get a start on this work over the summer."
