Vice-Minister Verbickas met with the new Ambassador of Egypt

On 10 February, the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs, Vidmantas Verbickas, met with the newly appointed Ambassador of Egypt to Lithuania, Mohamed Mounir Loutfy, who resides in Copenhagen. The meeting focused on political and economic cooperation between Lithuania and Egypt, the priorities of Lithuania's Presidency of the Council of the European Union, and the situation in the Middle East.

The Vice-Minister congratulated the Ambassador on the commencement of his tenure and expressed hope for further constructive cooperation between the countries. Both sides emphasized the desire to expand bilateral economic relations, with a particular focus on the Information Technology (IT) sector.

During the meeting, Verbickas presented the main priorities of Lithuania's Presidency of the Council of the EU, including defence and security, the integration of Ukraine and Moldova into the EU, support for Ukraine, and competitiveness.

The situation in the Middle East was also discussed. Both sides noted that instability in the region directly affects trade routes and negatively impacts the international trading system.
Lithuania established diplomatic relations with Egypt on 22 January 1992.
