American Jewish Committee (AJC), the global advocacy organization for the Jewish people, applauds the moral clarity of more than 1,200 film industry professionals who today joined with Creative Community for Peace (CCFP) in rejecting a recent pledge by their peers to boycott the Israeli film industry.
As the signers say in their letter, "[t]he pledge circulated under the banner of 'Film Workers for Palestine' is not an act of conscience. It is a document of misinformation that advocates for arbitrary censorship and the erasure of art."
The group importantly addresses and corrects many of these mistruths and instead urges action that will actually move us toward peace, including urging their colleagues to "call for the immediate release of the remaining hostages. Support filmmakers who create dialogue across communities. Stand against Hamas."
We urge others in the industry to hear the pleas of their colleagues and reject this and other discriminatory boycotts - including against individual creatives - that have become increasingly prevalent in the industry. .
