Deputy Minister of Defence Presides Over Public Day in Gampaha

In a significant move to strengthen community engagement, the Ministry of Defence has launched the 'Public Day' initiative. This program is designed to establish a direct and accessible channel of communication, allowing the Ministry to listen, understand, and collaboratively address the concerns of the retired and disabled veterans, the families of the fallen and the general public to share their concerns and collaborate on solutions.

The Deputy Minister of Defence, Major General Aruna Jayasekara (Retd), presided over a Public Day Programme held today (25 Jan) in Gampaha. Today's programme primarily focused on concerns raised by retired soldiers and their families, particularly relating to housing, welfare benefits, and other related matters.

The Deputy Minister personally reviewed each case and issued immediate instructions to the relevant officials to expedite appropriate solutions. He emphasized that the Ministry of Defence holds the service of veterans in the highest regard and remains committed to safeguarding the well being of the military community.

In addition to veteran related matters, the Deputy Minister also addressed a wide range of issues presented by members of the general public, including land related concerns and local infrastructure needs. He ensured that these matters were referred to the relevant state authorities for prompt follow up, underscoring the Ministry's role in fostering stability, responsiveness, and public trust.
