WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senator Susan Collins released the following statement after the successful launch of NASA's Crew-12 mission to the International Space Station commanded by Caribou, Maine, native Dr. Jessica Meir:

"This morning, Dr. Jessica Meir, of Caribou, successfully lifted off as commander of NASA's Crew-12 mission to the International Space Station. She previously spent more than 200 days aboard the ISS and helped carry out the first all-woman spacewalks in NASA history.

"Dr. Meir's career is a source of pride for all Mainers, especially the people of Caribou. I join Mainers across our state and Americans across the country in wishing Jessica and her crewmates a successful mission and a safe return home."
