Outbound I-55 lane closures for approximately one week

CHICAGO - The Illinois Department of Transportation announced today that repairs to the BNSF railroad bridge over Interstate 55 (Stevenson Expressway) will require lane closures on outbound I-55 for approximately one week beginning, weather permitting, Wednesday, May 6.

Starting at 10 p.m. Wednesday, the two left lanes and left shoulder will be closed on outbound I-55 from Kedzie Avenue to Pulaski Road. Two outbound lanes will remain open and inbound I-55 will not be impacted. The repairs are expected to be completed by 5 a.m. Thursday, May 14.

The public can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. Alternate routes are encouraged. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to flaggers and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits and be on the alert for workers and equipment.
