Greenberg Traurig’s Michelle Kim Receives Pro Bono Excellence Award

CHICAGO - May 1, 2026 - Michelle M. Kim, an associate in Greenberg Traurig, LLP's Chicago office, received the "Excellence in Pro Bono" award from the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, in conjunction with the Chicago Chapter of the Federal Bar Association, at the 24th Annual Awards for Excellence in Pro Bono & Public Interest Service on May 1 in Chicago.

The award recognizes attorneys who have made exceptional contributions to providing legal assistance to those most in need before the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.

Kim was selected in recognition of her pro bono work on behalf of a plaintiff in a prisoner civil rights case, which she handled prior to joining Greenberg Traurig. The case involved Section 1983 claims against correctional officers of the Cook County Department of Corrections for failure to protect, as well as a Monell liability claim against Cook County Sheriff Thomas Dart. The plaintiff sought relief for traumatic experiences suffered during his incarceration, stemming from the defendants' alleged disregard for his safety. Through Kim's dedicated advocacy, the matter was resolved through a favorable settlement, providing meaningful relief to the plaintiff.

Kim is a member of the firm's Intellectual Property & Technology practice, where she advises on intellectual property and anti-counterfeiting matters, with a focus on trademark and copyright actions.
