Cary, NC - The new Cedar Street Parking Deck is now open in downtown Cary, adding 296 free public parking spaces at 136 E. Cedar St. for visitors, residents, and nearby businesses. This parking deck includes eight ADA-accessible spaces and 22 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations on the first three levels. Access is available from E. Cedar Street, with connections to E. Chatham Street and Rogers Alley via stairs and an elevator.
The deck's ground floor includes retail space facing E. Chatham Street and incorporates distinctive architectural elements, along with a stormwater treatment device that supports environmental sustainability.
"The continued success of Downtown Cary Park, combined with the variety of new and existing businesses, reflects the strong momentum in our downtown," said Scot Berry, Assistant Town Manager. "The Cedar Street Parking Deck provides a centralized, convenient option for residents and visitors to easily access and enjoy everything downtown Cary has to offer."
With warmer weather and festival season approaching, downtown Cary is expected to welcome more visitors attending events, dining outdoors, and spending time at Downtown Cary Park. The new Cedar Street Parking Deck will help make it easier for people to find a nearby spot and explore downtown without worrying about parking, supporting the Imagine Cary Community Plan's vision for a more walkable, connected downtown where people can easily enjoy local destinations.
The project also improves Rogers Alley next to the Cedar Street deck with brick paver walkways, a brick-paved roadway, string lighting, and outdoor seating. These updates will support a future restaurant space and make downtown Cary feel more welcoming.
Visitors are encouraged to use the new public parking deck when traveling downtown instead of parking in nearby neighborhoods or private lots. Once parked, guests can easily walk or use GoCary's Downtown Loop to explore restaurants, shops, entertainment venues, and Downtown Cary Park. Construction of the Academy Street Parking Deck is estimated to be complete later this spring.
Cary's downtown parking map is available online to help visitors locate parking options and plan their visit. The new deck reflects Cary's commitment to planning ahead and investing in infrastructure that supports a vibrant, accessible downtown for residents and visitors alike.
