Bus Bridge and Green Line Cancellation Alert: Free buses replace trains between 24th St. Mission and Daly City on the weekend of November 14 & 15 for work on new train control[...]

BART crews will be in the trackway between 24th St. Mission and Daly City stations to enable crews to install critical components of a new train control system that will greatly enhance BART's reliability and capacity for decades to come.

The work team will be installing equipment for our new Communications-Based Train Control (CBTC) system. To ensure a safe workspace for the team, there will be no train service between 24th St. Mission and Daly City stations on the weekend of Saturday, November 14 & Sunday, November 15. The work will also require us to cancel the Green Line for the weekend.

Bus Bridge Details:

  • Full track closure between 24th St. Mission and Daly City stations with a bus bridge to replace train service in that area.
  • The bus bridge will feature direct service provided by Samtrans running express between 24th St. Mission and Daly City.
  • The bus bridge will also offer hopper service provided by Muni between 24th St. Mission and Daly City that will also stop at Glen Park and Balboa Park stations.
  • Glen Park and Balboa Park stations will offer no train service but will be served by the hopper bus service.
  • All Samtrans and Muni buses feature front-mounted exterior racks for bicycles.

Schedule adjustments:

  • The entire Green Line will not run.
  • The Red Line will run Richmond to 24th St. Mission only.
  • Train service between Daly City and Millbrae stations will run every 15 minutes.
  • All other lines will maintain 20-minute service.
  • Departure times for all lines will shift up to 3 minutes earlier or later compared to normal schedules because of the complexities of turning trains around at 24th St Mission.
  • An extra Orange Line train will depart Berryessa at 5:40 AM on Saturday and 7:40 AM on Sunday to replace the cancelled first Green Line train.

Delays Expected:

  • Riders traveling south of 24th St. Mission Station can expect delays up to 30 minutes during this shutdown weekend.

BART's Trip Planner will be updated by the end of October to reflect the schedule changes on the work weekend. You can keep up with the latest updates for projects that affect service by going to our Alerts and Advisories page.
Passenger support staff and interpreters will be at all stations. Temporary wayfinding signage will also be posted at all impacted stations to direct riders to the bus bridge.

This latest work will build on what has been an ongoing effort to install BART's new CBTC system. The state-of-the-art CBTC system will transform BART service by enabling trains to run closer together. A modernized train control system will enable BART to increase projected transbay capacity to 30 trains per hour per direction in the core system area, up from the current limitation of 24 trains per hour per direction.
