Youth Advocacy Scholarship for HS Seniors

Exciting scholarship opportunity for senior students of Downingtown West HS or the Downingtown S.T.E.M. Academy!

From the Western Chester County Council of Governments Website:

The Western Chester County Council of Governments (COG) is helping to send the next generation of leaders to college. The Youth Advocacy Scholarship is awarded to exceptional students with the desire to lead, serve, and have a positive impact on their communities.

WCCCOG will offer a $2500 scholarship to local students that:

1. Reside in the COG's service area.

2. Meet all of the scholarship criteria defined by the council; Demonstrates the attributes of leadership, integrity, drive, and citizenship within their communities and schools. Have proficient academic performance and active participation in school government or pursuit of a two year degree or four year degree in Public Administration, Political Science, or Urban Planning.

Application Process

Applications can be downloaded or completed online at wcccog.com.

Applications must be submitted to the COG by April 23, 2025 of the student's senior year. Applications may be submitted online at wcccog.com, in person, by email, or by mail at: 50 S First Avenue, Coatesville, PA 19320.

Recipient(s) of the WCCCOG scholarship must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a senior student in good standing in his/her high school.
  • Demonstrate proficient academic achievement (3.0 or higher cumulative GPA).
  • Demonstrate involvement in school government AND/OR be accepted at a university or community college in pursuit of a degree in Public Administration, Political Science, or Urban Planning.
  • Provide a recommendation by an administrator, teacher, or coach, or other personal reference.
  • Submit a 500-word essay exploring their own interest in local government, public administration, political science, or urban planning.
