Hall County Road Maintenance crews have begun treating roads in Hall County in anticipation of the snow and ice that is expected to hit much of north Georgia beginning Friday morning.
"We are not treating all of the County's roads, but we are treating the necessary roadways that could impact public safety and utility crews as they respond to calls following the incoming inclement weather," Hall County Road Maintenance Superintendent Jimmy Hightower said.
Hall County is pretreating its bridges, fire stations and access drives leading to County facilities by brining the roads with a special saltwater solution, creating a barrier that prevents ice from bonding to the road surface.
Although some areas of the County will be pretreated, citizens are encouraged to stay at home and only travel if necessary, as road conditions can change quickly and become dangerous for travel.
Citizens with vehicles parked along the side of a roadway should move them ahead of the winter weather to ensure public safety and utility crews' maneuverability throughout the County during the storm.
Weather updates, facility closures and alerts will be posted online at hallcounty.org, and citizens are encouraged to sign up for Hall County's Citizen's Alert System to receive free emergency and non-emergency alerts during inclement weather.
