All Brenau University offices and campuses will be closed Friday, Jan. 10, and Saturday, Jan. 11, due to a winter storm expected across much of north Georgia and metro Atlanta. Forecasts from the National Weather Service include the potential for cold temperatures, winter precipitation, hazardous driving conditions and power outages.

All in-person classes and on-campus events are canceled. Online classes and assignments should continue as planned; however, students with circumstances that prevent them from accessing courses should contact their instructor as soon as they are able.

The dining hall will be open during weekend hours (brunch 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and dinner 5 to 6 p.m.), and security can be reached by phone at 770-534-6202 by any residential students who need assistance. Residential students should let their RAs know if they plan to go home for the weekend or remain on campus, and ask about the severe weather plan for their residence hall, including what to do in case of a power loss.

At this time, the expectation is that Brenau's campuses will resume normal operations on Monday, Jan. 13, but monitor the Brenau website and area media outlets for updates. Additional information will be provided on the Brenau website and via Brenau's social media platforms.

Everyone is urged to be safe and prepare for the severe weather conditions that have been forecast for our area. Brenau students, faculty and staff can take the following steps to prepare for the anticipated severe weather:

  • Log into e2campus to ensure your contact information is correct and choose how you receive alerts. This service is available for parents of Brenau students as well.
  • Make sure your cell phone is fully charged.
  • Find additional tips on how to be winter storm-ready at https://gema.georgia.gov/winter.

This story will be updated with additional information as necessary; additional information also will be provided via Brenau's social media platforms.
