City of Palatka Honors Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on His Birthday

PALATKA-The City of Palatka proudly commemorates Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday by honoring his legacy of championing civil rights, racial equality, and social justice. As we reflect on Dr. King's enduring message of unity and his commitment to nonviolent action, we recognize the profound influence he continues to have on individuals, communities, and the nation at large.

"Dr. King's vision crossed barriers of race, religion, and background. His calls for unity, compassion, and understanding still light our path forward today," said Marcia Carty, interim Palatka City Manager. "By acknowledging his sacrifices and contributions, we continue to work towards creating a city where every resident is treated with dignity and respect."

The City of Palatka honors Dr. King's vision by working to create a community built on unity and service. Our leaders focus on fair policies, encourage open discussions, and invite all residents-regardless of background-to participate in civic life. By promoting understanding and collaboration, Palatka strives to keep Dr. King's teachings alive and improve life for everyone in our city.

In Honor of Dr. King

People wanting to come together to celebrate Dr. King are invited to join a march from the Jenkins Community Center, 1900 Napoleon St. in Palatka, to the Family Life Center, 1414 Bronson St., on Monday, starting at 10:30 a.m., to honor his life and legacy.

After the walk, the African-American Cultural Arts Council of Putnam County will host a festival at the Family Life Center from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Commissioners and staff of the City of Palatka wish you a safe, meaningful, and enjoyable Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
