VIENNA, 14 November (UN Information Service) - The new Permanent Representative of Estonia to the United Nations (Vienna), Arti Hilpus presented his credentials today to the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV) Ghada Waly.
During his career, Mr. Hilpus has served in various capacities, among them:
Director of Arms Control Division, North Atlantic Treaty Organization and Transatlantic Relations Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2022-2025); Ambassador to Latvia and non-resident Ambassador to Uzbekistan (2018-2022); Ambassador to the Russian Federation (2015-2018); Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, North Macedonia and Serbia (resident in Tallinn) (2012-2015); Ambassador to Norway and Iceland (2009-2012); Director of the Security Policy Division, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2006-2008); Director of the Division of Common Foreign and Security Policy of the European Union, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2005-2006); First Secretary (Political Affairs), Embassy in Berlin, Germany (2001-2004); Director of the Division of Common Foreign and Security Policy of the European Union, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (1999-2001); and Director of Personnel Division, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (1996-1998).
Mr. Hilpus holds a bachelor's degree in history cum laude from Tartu University, Estonia.
He speaks English, Estonian, French, German and Russian.
