PANGKALPINANG -- PT Timah's commitment to improving community welfare is once again demonstrated through the construction of decent housing for low-income families in the company's operational areas.
This housing program for communities in mining areas is also part of PT Timah's support for the Government's target of building 3 million houses nationwide to meet housing needs, address the housing backlog, and improve both welfare and quality of life.
The construction of these houses is expected to provide safe, healthy, and comfortable homes for beneficiary families. Beyond supporting welfare, the program also reinforces the company's commitment to fulfilling its social responsibility in the housing sector.
Between January and August 2025, PT Timah Tbk has built and renovated seven decent homes for communities in the Bangka Belitung Islands Province and the Riau Islands Province.
One of the beneficiaries, Nursen Nein (66), a resident of Lalang Village, East Belitung Regency, expressed her gratitude and relief after receiving assistance for renovating her home. With the roof and walls being repaired, she no longer needs to worry about leaks during the rainy season or the cold air seeping through the deteriorated wooden walls.
"The condition of the house really needed urgent repairs, especially the roof and walls that were severely damaged. This house was built in 1948, so it's understandable that the structure is fragile, and the wooden walls are rotting and must be replaced. If left as is, the house could collapse," she said.
She explained that she had long dreamed of renovating her home, but due to financial constraints, it had only remained a dream. During bad weather, especially heavy rains, she often worried about the roof collapsing since the wooden structure had decayed over time.
"My financial situation has not been good since COVID. The economy declined, and I have had no income to repair the house," she added.
Department Head of Corporate Communication at PT Timah Tbk, Anggi Siahaan, emphasized that the decent housing program is one of the company's initiatives to help improve the quality of life for the community.
"A home is the foundation for a better quality of life. With decent housing, people can live healthier, more productive, and prosperous lives. This initiative also aligns with the government's program of providing 3 million houses for the people," he explained.
In addition to meeting housing needs in mining areas, this program also reflects the company's synergy with the government in achieving national development goals.
With decent housing, residents are expected to have greater opportunities to improve their living standards, whether in health, education, or economic aspects. (\*)
