EAST BELITUNG -- During the holy month of Ramadan, PT TIMAH (Persero) Tbk once again provided assistance for the renovation of Masjid Agung Darussalam in Manggar, East Belitung Regency, Bangka Belitung Islands Province.
The assistance to improve the mosque's facilities and infrastructure was handed over directly by PT TIMAH Tbk Commissioner Yuslih Ihza, Director of Human Resources Ratih Mayasari, and Division Head of the Belitung Area Feriandi. The handover was also witnessed by the Regent of East Belitung, Kamarudin Muten, and received by the board of the Masjid Agung Darussalam Mosque Council.
Masjid Agung Darussalam was established around 1974 by PT TIMAH Tbk and was initially named Masjid As Salam 2. Over time, the mosque was handed over to the community to be utilized and managed as a shared place of worship.
From 1974 to 2025, the mosque has been renovated three times with the aim of providing greater comfort for Muslim worshippers in the Manggar area.
Chairman of the Masjid Agung Darussalam Mosque Council, Bani Machtum, described the current condition of the mosque, which has deteriorated due to age and time.
"Currently, many parts of the mosque need repairs. Several wooden sections have become weathered and fragile. We are concerned that the ceiling could collapse at any time and endanger worshippers during prayer. We have been making gradual repairs because the funds only come from the mosque's cash donations," he explained.
Deputy Chairman I of the Masjid Agung Darussalam Mosque Council, Imam Kuraisi, expressed gratitude for the financial assistance provided by PT TIMAH Tbk.
"Alhamdulillah, we would like to thank PT TIMAH Tbk for always caring about us. Hopefully PT TIMAH Tbk will continue to be successful so it can keep helping the community, especially in supporting places of worship in East Belitung Regency," he said.
The Regent of East Belitung, Kamarudin Muten, also expressed appreciation to PT TIMAH Tbk for consistently showing concern for communities in the company's operational areas in East Belitung.
"PT TIMAH Tbk regularly provides assistance to the people of East Belitung, not only for places of worship but also for various social activities. We hope that in the future PT TIMAH Tbk will continue to contribute to maintaining and caring for places of worship in East Belitung," he concluded. (*)
