MidAmerican honored with Inspiring Efficiency Innovation Award

MidAmerican's Neighborhood Power-Up program recognized for its positive impacts on communities and customers
DES MOINES, Iowa (Feb. 3, 2026) - The Midwest Energy Efficiency Alliance honored MidAmerican Energy's Neighborhood Power-Up program with a 2026 Inspiring Efficiency Innovation Award in the innovation category. MEEA presented the award at last week's Midwest Energy Solutions Conference in Chicago. Neighborhood Power-Up is designed to improve energy efficiency and lower energy costs in homes, small businesses and multifamily housing in areas with significant populations of low-income and energy-burdened residents in Iowa and Illinois. MEEA recognized MidAmerican's program for its innovative, community based approach. "We appreciate being honored alongside organizations that share our dedication to advancing energy efficiency," Erin Rasmussen, MidAmerican director of energy efficiency, said. "This program demonstrates that when we collaborate with our customers and communities, energy efficiency becomes more accessible and helps maintain low energy costs." Through Neighborhood Power-Up, MidAmerican provides homeowners, renters and business owners free energy assessments, energy-saving items and enhanced incentives on energy-efficient equipment. The pilot project launched in Rock Island in 2024 and shifted to Sioux City in 2025. Planning is underway to launch in Waterloo this year. "By tailoring energy solutions to neighborhoods in need, (MidAmerican has) created a scalable model for equity-driven efficiency," Paige Knutsen, executive director, MEEA, said.
