The Alaska Harvest Collaborative garden, seen in midsummer 2025, is a site for experiential learning in food systems and production.

A series of workshops hosted by the Alaska Harvest Collaborative in Fairbanks will introduce participants to starting seeds, composting, irrigating and managing a garden.

Mallory Smith, the collaborative's garden manager, will teach the classes from late March through early June. She mentors students in the experiential learning garden and has 16 seasons of experience growing fruits and vegetables in northern climates and working in the local food movement.

The Alaska Harvest Collaborative, composed of community groups, encourages individuals to grow and prepare fresh food, participate in the local food system and make healthy life choices. Each class costs $40. A student discount is available.

On March 25 and April 15, Smith will teach indoor seed-starting techniques. The class is from 5:30-7:30 p.m. in the Arctic Health Research Building greenhouse classroom, AHRB 1W05.
