The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for high winds and low relative humidity, including in the Bismarck area, and it is in effect today until 10:00 PM. The Bismarck Fire Department reminds city residents that additional Burn Restrictions are in place when the fire danger index is at the "Very High" or "Extreme" level or when a Red Flag Warning is issued by the National Weather Service.
As long as any of these conditions remain in effect, all recreational burning is banned. Recreational burning includes outdoor fire pits, fireplaces, portable outdoor fireplaces, and chimeneas.
Also, any outdoor cooking appliances using solid fuels tend to produce sparks, which can lead to a fire. Solid fuels include wood, charcoal briquettes, and pellets. These solid fuel cooking devices are also restricted when a Red Flag Warning is issued or when the fire danger index is at the "Very High" or "Extreme" level. Gas grills may be used. It is recommended to keep the lid closed, attend the grill while in use, and have on-site capability to extinguish fire if necessary.
