Drivers headed to Tampa International Airport may be affected by road closures on the George J. Bean Parkway on several nights the next two weeks, mainly affecting access to the Red Side of the Airport for Arrivals and Departures.
The Airport will be implementing detours overnight starting April 28 on the Parkway, which serves as the main thoroughfare into and around TPA's Main Terminal. Some nights will involve closing some or all lanes and rerouting traffic, while other nights will involve closing the Red Arrivals drive entirely.
The closures are necessary to install new trusses (pictured) over the roadway to eventually hold signage as the Airport's Red Express Curbsides and Main Terminal expansion project nears completion.
Temporary barriers and workers will direct traffic while the temporary detours are in effect, which will be from Monday through Friday morning for the next two weeks, April 28 to May 2 and May 5 to 9. No work will be done Friday, Saturday or Sunday nights.
Expect detours to begin by about 10 p.m. each night and continue through the morning hours, although the duration may vary depending on the date.
Please make a note of the dates and give yourself extra time if you are coming to the airport, especially if you are picking up travelers from the Red Side of the Main Terminal.
The $109 million project encompassing the Red Express building and its traffic lanes, an expanded walkway to the Airport Marriott and a shuttle station for the future Airside D, is scheduled to be completed in Summer 2025.
