The Cayman Islands Monetary Authority ("CIMA") is aware of an ongoing phishing campaign involving fraudulent WhatsApp messages and emails that falsely claim to originate from CIMA. The scam features individuals impersonating CIMA employees and attempting to solicit personal information or payments.
The misleading communications bear the title 'Initiate Your Transaction with Pull Transfer' and contain CIMA's logo and its physical address. Such fraudulent activities originate externally, using fake domains and impersonation techniques. While CIMA's official address is 171 Elgin Avenue, George Town, SIX, Cricket Square, Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands, it is being misused in this scam. Additionally, it is important to note that CIMA does not communicate through WhatsApp, nor does it engage in any Bitcoin schemes.
CIMA's internal systems remain secure, with no signs of unauthorised access or compromise.
We urge individuals to exercise caution and verify the legitimacy of any communication that claims to originate from CIMA. If you receive suspicious emails or messages, please report them immediately to [email protected].
