Dear Loyola Community,
Like many of you, I woke up this New Year's Day to the news about the deadly attack on Bourbon Street in the early hours of the morning. I am heartbroken by this senseless act of violence.
As a community, we mourn those whose lives were lost, and we are praying for those who are injured. While we have not received information indicating that anyone from Loyola was directly involved, we grieve alongside the families and friends of all who are waiting to hear from loved ones and grappling with this tragedy.
The New Orleans Police Department and the FBI are actively investigating the nature of this attack. We remain in contact with local authorities and will promptly share any updates relevant to our Loyola community as they become available.
It is important to lean on one another in times like these. Support resources are available for students and employees. Students can speak with a counselor on-call at the University Counseling Center by calling 504-865-3835 (press 1 at the voicemail prompt). Employees can access support through the Employee Assistance Program by calling 1-800-955-6422.
Let us continue to care for one another and hold those affected in our prayers.
Peace and Blessings,
Dr. Xavier A. Cole
President
