Today, in response to the Department of Defense Inspector General report finding that Secretary Pete Hegseth risked endangering American troops and compromising mission objectives when he communicated war plans over Signal, U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, member of the Senate Armed Services and Intelligence committees, released the following statement:
"This report only clarifies what we have known for months: Secretary Hegseth's reckless behavior and poor judgment are putting U.S. service members in danger and jeopardizing our national security. While he frequently denigrates the troops under his command to score political points, Secretary Hegseth himself has repeatedly shown blatant carelessness and demonstrated a lack of the moral fitness his position demands. I opposed his confirmation in January because I knew he was manifestly unfit to lead our armed forces, and he continues to drive that point home every day. Our men and women in uniform deserve better than the unserious, unqualified, and incompetent failure that is Secretary Hegseth, and for the sake of our nation and troops, he should resign."
