If you live in city of Las Vegas zip codes 89101, 89102, 89104, 89106, 89107 or 89110, you may qualify for a free tree. Residents in these zip codes may apply online now, to qualify for a tree, planting and an irrigation system. For more information, including a map of eligible area codes, visit https://www.lasvegasnevada.gov/trees.

The city has received $5 million in federal funding to plant drought-tolerant shade trees in areas most affected by urban heat islands. Due to the lack of tree canopy and an overabundance of concrete, asphalt, buildings and traffic, these areas have increased temperatures.

In 2022 the Las Vegas City Council adopted its Urban Forestry Program to assist with the 2050 Master Plan's Urban Forestry goal to plant 60,000 drought-tolerant trees by the year 2050. Trees improve air quality, provide shade and enhance public health and property values.
