Safe Streets and Roads for All Program Grants to Make Local Roads Safer
Nov. 15, 2024 - Today, the City of St. Petersburg received $3,645,080 in grant funding from the U.S. Department of Transportation's Safe Streets and Roads for All program to make local roads safer around the community. The Safe Streets and Roads for All program funds regional, local, and Tribal initiatives through grants to prevent roadway deaths and serious injuries.
"With Environment, Infrastructure and Resilience as one of our Pillars for Progress, I'm excited to announce the City of St. Petersburg has been awarded $3.6 million from the U.S. Department of Transportation to help make our roads safer for everyone," said Mayor Kenneth T. Welch. "This grant will fund efforts that will improve our residents' quality of life by addressing road safety hazards that pedestrians and drivers face on a daily basis. I want to thank Congresswoman Kathy Castor and our federal partners for their assistance in securing this grant for our community and we look forward to implementing this funding with their support."
The City of St. Petersburg will use this award to fund various transportation safety projects throughout the City. The City will implement and analyze various demonstration safety treatments, including improved lighting, pedestrian crosswalks, curb extensions, and reduced speed zones, and will inform future safety investments and strategies.
