UW Provost Carman Submits Resignation

After serving more than three years as the University of Wyoming's chief academic officer, Provost and Executive Vice President Kevin Carman has submitted his resignation, effective Tuesday, Oct. 1.

"Provost Carman has helped lead our university through a period of change and has played a key role in positioning us for success in the future," President Ed Seidel says. "I deeply appreciate his many contributions and will miss his collegial counsel."

Carman came to UW in 2021 after serving as the executive vice president and provost at the University of Nevada, Reno, from 2013-2020. During his time at UW, he directed the development and successful implementation of the Saddle Up onboarding program for new students, which has helped boost UW's freshman-to-sophomore retention rate from about 75 percent to 79 percent. He has overseen an update of UW's University Studies Program, which is nearing completion. And he directed UW's successful application to achieve the Carnegie Elective Classification for Community Engagement.

Carman was a faculty member at Louisiana State University in the Department of Biological Sciences for 24 years. He served as interim dean and then dean of the LSU College of Science for nine years before his move to Nevada.

Seidel expects to announce interim leadership for the Office of Academic Affairs by Oct. 18.
