Celebrating Strength and Resilience: A Merry Maids Hero’s Journey Through Breast Cancer

As we observe Breast Cancer Awareness Month this October, ServiceMaster Brands is proud to highlight the incredible story of Sue, a dedicated team member from our Merry Maids franchise in Phoenix, Arizona. Owned and operated by Stacy Thorkildson, this branch exemplifies the spirit of support and camaraderie, especially through Sue's inspiring journey.

Sue has been a cornerstone of the Merry Maids team for nine years, working tirelessly as a solo cleaner. Her commitment and excellence were recently recognized when she was named Teammate of the Month in April of this year. With zero complaints, zero missed days, 26 compliments, and an impressive DpQ (dollar per quarter) of $18.61, Sue's performance is nothing short of exemplary.

Earlier this year, Sue received a life-changing diagnosis: breast cancer. Despite the challenges of chemotherapy and numerous medical appointments, Sue's dedication to her work has never wavered. She continues to show up with a smile, inspiring her colleagues and clients alike. Her resilience and positive attitude have made her a beacon of hope and strength within the team.

In a touching gesture of solidarity, Sue's teammate Christy organized an initiative where colleagues and office staff brought in pink flowers and created a beautiful wreath for Sue's locker. This act of kindness is a testament to the supportive environment fostered by Stacy and the entire Merry Maids team.

On social media, the team shared their admiration for Sue: "Congratulations to Sue, Our Teammate of the Month! Awesome job, Sue! Despite facing the tremendous challenge of breast cancer and currently undergoing chemotherapy, Sue's spirit remains unbroken. She continues to fight mentally and physically, demonstrating incredible resilience and dedication."

Sue's story is a powerful reminder of the impact one person can have on their community. Her courage and perseverance make a difference in the lives of her customers and colleagues every day. As we celebrate Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we honor Sue and all those who fight this battle with grace and grit.
